There’s nothing like a sexy African man who knows how to dress. Kenyan men, please note that the following is why Nigerian men get all the ladies Nigerian artist D’banj, who just recently signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music family, attended the 2011 BET Awards. D’banj and 2Face emerged joint winners of the Best International Act (Africa) award at the awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, June 26. D’banj looked good enough to eat in a velour green blazer matched with a pair of Christian Louboutin Mika Raja flats ($2,395) from their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. The Billboard Music Awards red carpet was a bit dull but it did offer us some great looks. My favourite was Kelly Rowland as she stepped out in a pink Herve Leger bondage dress paired with nude colored heels. Her body looks amazing! Check out more red carpet pics after the break. (more…)
That Beyonce reign just won’t let up! She tore the stage at the Billboard Music Awards on Saturday night with her performance of “Who Run The World (Girls)”. The performance, which began with Beyonce declaring “Men have been given the chance to rule the world but ladies our revolution has begun. Let’s build a nation women everywhere run the world!”, was filled with special effects and tons of dancers.
After she performed, her mother Tina Knowles and nephew Julez presented her with the first ever Billboard Millennium Award. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her mother and father for “teaching me about the music industry [and] about work ethic and drive”. She also thanked her former group members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as well as the original members of Destiny’s Child. “I’d like to thank the original members of Destiny’s Child, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson.” Maybe now they can put the past behind them and work on that Destinys Child reunion
Her speech ended with a special thanks to her husband Jay-z who was smiling in the audience. “I’d like to thank my best friend. I don’t want to put you on the spot because I know they probably putting the camera in your face right now but I love me some Jay-Z“. Too cute!
Check out more pics of her performing and accepting the award after the break. (more…)

Norwegian televoters have selected Stella Mwangi to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany with her song “Haba Haba”. Stella won the final of “Melodi Grand Prix 2011″ with 280,217 votes against the closest rival “the Blacksheeps” song “Dance Tonight” garnering 155,059 votes!
“I am so grateful for all the votes, I’m so glad I get to represent Norway with what I burn for,” Mwangi told reporters after digesting the fact that she had won. “Music means everything to me,” she added. Her song centers heavily on what her grandmothers told her as a young girl, that she could be whatever she wants to be. Stella Mwangi and her family moved to Norway as political refugees when she was only five years old.
I hope she knocks them dead at Eurovision. Congrats to STL!!! Check out pics of her Melodi Grand Prix 2011 performance after the break. (more…)
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were held last night in LA at the Staples Center. I love Grammy night coz we get to see such fabulous fashion sense. Rihanna looked glamorous as she stepped out on the Red Carpet in a dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier. That dress is playing Peek -a-boo! I think she’s wearing a nude body stocking underneath…okay I hope she is. I’m not feeling the hair much though. I prefer the curly look she had during the 2010 American Music Awards. Check out more Grammy Fashion pics after the break. (more…)
Every woman’s nightmare is how to lose the extra pounds of flesh gained from pregnancy. For some women, it just refuses to go away. If you’re still struggling to shed those pounds, maybe you should try what Christina Milian did. She’s looking amazing! Christina Milian and Baby Violet were spotted at ABC Family’s “25 Days Of Christmas” 2010 Winter Wonderland Event at Rockefeller Center in New York. The singer was in New York City promoting her made-for-TV movie Christmas Cupid at the Rock Center Café. Wearing a very flattering deep red dress, the 29-year-old glowed with health and happiness as she held little nine-month-old Violet Nash close by her side. Little Violet looked equally festive in a matching red dress and Santa hat. Christina is working her new body and looking fantabulous. See how she did it after the break. (more…)
Rapper Eminem, newcomer Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga top the 2011 Grammy nominations list released yesterday. Eminem racked up 10 nominations! Newcomer Bruno Mars earned a total of 7 nominations, including 3 nods for his collaboration with B.O.B titled “Nothing On You”. Jay-z earned six, newcomer B.O.B earned five, and Drake & Rihanna earned 4 a piece.
R&B Diva Monica received 2 nominations which included “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for ‘Everything To Me’, and “Best R&B Album”. Beyonce snagged 2 (including her “Telephone” collab with Lady Gaga), Alicia Keys snagged 3 (all for her hit song “Empire State Of Mind” w/ Jay-z). R. Kelly earned 2 (Best Contemporary R&B Album, & Best Traditional R&B Vocal for “When A Woman Loves) and Nicki Minaj also gained a grammy nomination for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group – My Chick Bad w/Ludacris”.
Canadian stars Justin Bieber and Drake are nominated for best new artist, along with U.K. acts Florence & the Machine and Mumford & Sons, and jazz artist Esperanza Spalding. Chris Brown is nominated for 3 Grammys for Best Contemporary R&B Album (Graffiti), Best Rap Collaboration (“Deuces”) and Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group (“Take My Time” with Tank). He probably won’t win but the nominations mean his career is getting back on track #teambreezy. See the nomination list after the break. (more…)
The 2010 Channel O Musice Video Awards were held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg last night. It was a hugely disappointing night for Kenyans. We did not bring home a single award despite having Wyre, Nameless & Habida nominated. It would be too easy to say that South Africans and Nigerians are favored by the organizers. I say we take a look at our music industry and figure out what we are doing wrong.
I have a few to start. Why can’t we develop a uniquely Kenyan sound? Don’t shoot the messenger. However, it’s a fact that most Kenyan musicians are satisfied with copying styles from other countries. I, for one would love to see Nameless on a track with an ohangla beat. Or, how about P-Unit hooking up with a mugithi artist to bring a truly Kenyan feel. Genge or Kapuka is not going to cut it on the international scene. The sooner we realize that, the better. Amani is doing a really good job. When I listen to her, I can identify her sound as Kenyan. Look at K’naan. When he sings, you can feel the influence of his heritage. That’s how he’s able to draw in other people, even when blending his music with international styles. Our music should have a broader appeal to people outside Kenya. (more…)
I love love love Halloween!!! I actually prefer Halloween to Christmas This year, the celebrity who completely outdid herself is Ciara. She chose to dress up as Storm from X-Men. She looks fantabulous!!! Halle Berry had better watch out now…

*sigh* I really can’t believe I’m writing this post. The above pic is of Monique, the comedian, from this past weekend when she attended the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. Now those are some hairy legs. In the past, I’ve just kept it moving when people complained about her legs. But it’s really beginning to irk me. Ladies, there is no excuse for you to get out of the house looking like godzilla is your grandfather.
Yes, I respect Monique’s right to let her legs look whichever way she fancies, but this right here is so not the business. These legs have even been the topic of conversation in her interview with the view a few years back. The topic had arisen because of the below flick taken at the Golden Globe Awards: (more…)
Congratulations to Ms. Natasha Metto who will be Kenya’s representative to the Miss World 2010 pageant set to be held in Sanya, China. The final will be on 30th October. Natasha is really pretty but I hate that they insist on using this picture of her because the weave is just horrible. I say this only because I’ve been wearing weaves continuously for the last 3 years (sssshhhh) and I know she can get it done very well in Nairobi, and quite cheaply too. I’m rooting for her though and I wish my vote counted
This year they decided to have the Miss Kenya event done in a reality TV show set up. I will confess that I missed every single episode. Therefore, I have no idea what competition Natasha was up against. I was a bit curious about what she should expect in China. So I have a few pics of various contestants mainly from Africa who will be representing their countries, and a few others who can be considered black. Pics after the break. (more…)
Remember I told you about the estimated cost of Chelsea Clinton’s wedding last week? It did go on with no hitches although Obama did not attend. I really hate to hate but some things just have to be said. Chelsea Clinton is just not pretty… I don’t mean she’s like the ugliest person in the world. But she’s just not pretty. Those Clinton genes are not the business. The groom is also not my cup of tea. Her dress by Vera Wang was awesome though. More pics after the break. (more…)
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz were wed July 31st in southern Corsica, Piantarella. Alicia wore a beautiful Vera Wang gown which was inspired by Egyptian Princess; shoes with no heel designed exclusively for her by Christian Louboutin, and a diamond tiara. Swizz Beatz looked handsome in a suit designed by Tom Ford. The couple brought together an intimate gathering of family and friends and celebrated their new marriage and their baby on the way, aboard a 260-foot yacht on the Mediterranean Sea.

This past weekend was surely reserved for weddings. Therefore my updates today will be of the three weddings that went down: TI and Tiny, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, and Marc Mezvinsky and Chelsea Clinton.
TI and Tiny officially got married at a Miami courthouse on Friday, June 30th. The wedding celebrations were held the following day in Miami. A few unofficial pics are floating around mostly from twitter. The ceremony opened with crooner El DeBarge performing several songs, and triple-threat entertainer Jamie Foxx sang a bridal processional as Cottle made her entrance. Antonia “Toya” Carter said it best: “…the cutest couple ever! u can’t spell Tiny without TI. Congrats!”
Guests partied into the wee hours of Sunday morning at Cameo Nightclub afterwards. I’m sure Tiny is elated after being a baby mama for what seems like a lifetime now. Check out more pics after the break. (more…)
I can hardly believe that it’s already been one year since we lost the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Fans all over the world are still in shock and are planning huge memorials. Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in New York city has gone a step further and unveiled a wax statue of Michael. It looks eerily life-like. His family, on the other hand, are still trying to hog the spotlight. What with one of his bros giving an interview at his grave side, and LaToya visiting Bubbles the chimp and claiming that Michael was murdered. These people are the real psychos. See more pics of our waxy Michael after the break. (more…)
Iman was honored with the Fashion Icon Award on Monday night by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This is an award given to “an individual whose signature style has had a profound influence on fashion.” Iman is almost 55 years old but could even pass for twenty something… I’m jealous
She was recently featured in a New York Times article which chronicles her journey from Nairobi, where she was attending university when she was discovered by photographer Peter Beard, to her current success as an entrepreneur, covering her three decades as a model revered by fashion designers and publications, as well as her marriage to David Bowie.
She tells the well-documented story of how she arrived in New York in 1975, the daughter of a Somalian diplomat. She spoke five languages but had never worn makeup or high heels. (more…)
Ciara attended the 11th Annual Maxim Hot 100 Party in Los Angeles on Wednesday night in a Gucci outfit and Versace heels. Bish is looking hot! I think I need to hit the gym to get my legs looking as toned as hers. Meanwhile, BET has decided not to air her Ride video. They don’t have a problem with videos from male artists that show women popping their booties all over the damn place now do they? #TeamCiara on this one. More pics after the break. (more…)
Naomi Campbell, our feisty diva, has been out and about at the Cannes Festival. This one fashion choice looks quite like a Halloween costume interesting. How about you decide. Green for YES and Red for NO… More pics after the jump. (more…)
So Chris Brown was in Italy for Fashion Week. If this is fashion, then I think we’re better off with figs and leaves. Most of his outfits were just atrocious!!! Chris needs to fire whoever lied to him that he will be a trendsetter with these threads. If my man (I love you honey!) showed up in something like this, I would personally take him shopping for mitumba clothes. People don’t understand that some of the shit on runways are meant FOR THE RUNWAY!!!
Pop the top for more atrociousness (is that a word?)… (more…)
Halle Berry is a bad bish… And I know it’s wrong but I can’t help but be jealous!!! She’s an older woman who’s just given birth and she looks way better than I ever have! Yeah, I know she has help in terms of money for stylists, beauty treatments, etc. The fact is she’s hot and other bishes want to be HER!!!
Pop the top for more pics of Halle at the Golden Globes… (more…)
Adam Lambert, last season’s American Idols runner-up, performed a raunchy performance at the American Music Awards Sunday night, interrupted by a quick tumble on stage. Lambert alternately had a dancer on a leash, had a dancer’s head grinding against his crotch simulating oral sex, and had a hand on his own crotch. He also made out with a male band member and flipped his middle finger.
More after the break…
Diddy held one of the hottest parties of the year last week at the Plaza in New York to celebrate his 40th Birthday. The event was black tie and super exclusive. Celebrity guests included the likes of Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, Martha Stewart, Kim Kardashian, Tyrese, Keri Hilson, Al Sharpton, Spike Lee, Cassie, Steve Stoute, Kenny Burns and more. Music Legend Al Green performed and Trey Songz sang the birthday song.
