Ooooh I love me some Trey! In the March 2012 issue of GQ, Trey has a 10 page feature dubbed ‘The Most Important Items In Your Wardrobe’, where he shows off the best sports jacket and blazer looks for the fellas. He rocks styles by J. Crew, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren Black Label, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Emporio Armani & Etro. According to GQ, if you are a guy and you don’t already own a well-fitted sports jacket, it should be the first thing on your list to add to your wardrobe.
While getting ready for his 2012 release of his album ‘Chapter V,’ Trey dished to GQ about possibly changing up his music style in the future by following in Marvin Gaye’s footsteps and making music that changes lives. He also dished on why he thinks Twitter and Facebook take away the mystery of an artist’s “persona”:
On Making Music Like Marvin Gaye — Love Songs to Changing Lives
I could make a hundred “Bottoms Up’s but they won’t change nobody’s life. Marvin Gaye sang love songs to a certain point, and then it was like, ‘F–k this; I’m not clean-cut no more. I’m putting this skully on, letting this beard grow out, and I’m doing whatever the f-ck I wanna do.
On if he’ll change up his style
I might. Give me a couple of years, though.
On Social Networking and whether it ruins the Mystery of Artists
What made Prince, Prince is, you didn’t know shit about him. As an artist, you need a persona, a mystique. When you step into Twitter, Facebook, all of that, you’re giving a piece of it away.
Check out some of Trey’s looks from the spread: (more…)
You can always count on Queen Bey to be on top of the latest fashion trends. I would never have dared to wear a body belt necklace but Bey showed us how to work it in her ‘Girls Who Run The World Video’ last year. She pulled it off so effortlessly that we are now seeing it on red carpets and runways. You can cop this body belt necklace clad with silver-tone galvanized brass plates for yourself at Giuseppe for just $995.
Angela Simmons was spotted at New York Fashion Week in Manhattan hitting up a few shows including BCBG MaxAzria. She wore a black knee-length dress that she paired with Giuseppe Zanotti leopard print pony wedges and a gold Giuseppe Zanotti body belt necklace. Serena Williams was also spotted wearing a black dress combination with the gold neckpiece last year while attending the 8th Annual Keep A Child Alive Ball.
Check out pics of the girls working the piece after the break. (more…)
Africans are doing big things around the globe! Zimbabwe-born British beauty, Nyasha Matonhodze, at only 16-years-old has been chosen as spokesmodel for Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter campaign. Following in the footsteps of Madonna and Scarlett Johansson, Matonhodze has been chosen to appear in the French fashion label’s autumn/winter 2011 campaign, shot by renowned fashion photographer, Steven Meisel.
“My eyes filled up with tears and I thought ‘Lord you are lucky!’” said Matonhodze of the moment she discovered she had been chosen to star as one of six up-and-coming models in Vuitton’s campaign, photographed in a vintage car at a disused Brooklyn aerodrome. “It didn’t actually hit me until I was sat in a Rolls Royce sitting eye-to-eye with Mr Meisel. He is a wonder to work with, he and Marc [Jacobs}made me feel beautiful”. (more…)
With Valentines Day coming fast around the corner, I know all my lady ballers are wondering what they should get that special guy in their life. I really hate shopping for men because it always seems like they have everything they need. With women, there’s always something new we could do with.
While surfing the net I stumbled upon a really cool gift for men. It’s the dunhill Carbon Fiber Biometric Wallet. This is not just any old wallet. Virtually indestructible, the dunhill Biometric Wallet will open only with the touch of your fingerprint. It can be linked via Bluetooth to the owner’s mobile phone – sounding an alarm if the two are separated by more than 5 metres! This provides a brilliant warning if either the phone or wallet is stolen or misplaced. The exterior of the wallet is constructed from highly durable carbon fibre that will resist all but the most concerted effort to open it, while the interior features a luxurious leather credit card holder and a strong stainless steel money clip. The perfect gift at only $1,400
I’m always looking for a way to help improve my country, and the world, in my every day life. Now you can do it through fashion, and by being a fashion trendsetter at that! Inspired by the beauty of East Africa, Kikoy4Kenya is a line of 100% cotton, hand finished textiles that celebrates the rich heritage, craftsmanship and vibrancy of Kenya. Kikoy4Kenya combines the century-old dying and weaving skills of Kenyan artisans to produce the highest quality of indigenous cotton in a rich array of patterns and hues. More than a luxurious hand woven garment, the Kikoy is a jewel from the rich Kenyan culture. Traditionally worn as a sarong by East African men, the multi-tasking Kikoy also serves as a scarf, a dress, and a turban as well as a tapestry or a blanket.
Kikoy4Kenya began as a community project to raise money for the Koinonia Education Centre in Nairobi. Children of the Kibagare slum are given the opportunity to receive a high class education. The school is able to give the children an opportunity to learn and grow. K4K believes that education is the first step in eliminating poverty, and the education of the children is a step towards the education of the community. For every Kikoy4Kenya sold, K4K funds one day of education for one child. However you wear your Kikoy4Kenya, you are wearing it as part of a global community.
I love people who are not afraid to try new things. Chris Brown is quite the artsy personality. He recently teamed up with Australian artist, Kid Zoom, and created some artwork that showed off his creativity and crazy skills. In true Breezy style, he shared with us some of their collaborative work via twitter, including a graffitied skull backdrop and an image of Chris’ tatted arm holding a machete covered in red paint.
“I fell in love with art around the age of six. I always took pride in kind of winning the coloring contests in school,” explained the R&B singer. “Art was my only outlet. Aside from music, art is the thing that I like to escape. (more…)
Twitter is a gold mine if you know how to use it to your advantage. Over the weekend, 50 Cent tweeted to his 3.8 million followers about investing in a penny stock HNHI, a distributor of headphones which include his new Sleek by 50 headphones. Some of his followers took his investing advice and purchased stock in the company.
Earlier we noted that shares of HNHI added $50 million in market cap today thanks to tweets from 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson. Obviously he’s being compensated. How much? A LOT. This SEC filing shows that he owned 30 million shares. Seeing as each one gained $.29 today, that’s nearly $10 million for one weekend of tweeting. How soon do you think he sells? Source
As of 5pm on Monday, the stock rose to $.39 per share and opened at $.45 Tuesday morning. Check the tweets that made the stocks soar below: (more…)
For the woman who has everything, here comes the Gold Rush! The most expensive nail polish in the world. This exclusive nail polish is available to view and order from British jeweler “Frost of London.” It sparkles as if it contains tiny diamonds, yet is absolutely smooth to the touch. The exquisite gold lid is hand-crafted from a solid ingot of yellow gold, and weighs nearly 4 ounces. A total of 1,118 diamonds have been precisely inset weighing over 14 carats of ‘collection’ VVS quality and colours D, E and F. The Gold Rush nail polish is priced at $130,740.00. The Gold Rush will be available at Models Own from mid-December.
Now that’s the couture version. For those of us who do not have that kind of money lying around to spend on nail polish, the ready to wear, down-to-earth version only costs $7. Even if I had a loose $130,000 lying around, I still wouldn’t spend it on nail polish. However, if you’re feeling generous this festive season, I would definitely accept it as a gift
Iman is looking stunning in this shoot for Harpers Bazaar. I wonder what her secret is. She just never seems to age. And she doesn’t even look like she uses botox, surgery, etc. I’m so jealous… I think I’ve found my wedding dress. See what I’m talking about after the break. You can just tell she’s a diva from the interview:
Simon Doonan: How many times a day do you Google yourself?
Iman: Every five minutes. I simply can’t take my eyes off myself. Kidding! I would rather Google other people than Google myself.
SD: Have you ever thrown a cell phone at anyone?
Iman: No! And if anyone threw one at me, it would come right back at them like a boomerang. If I feel frustrated in a situation, I take a deep breath and walk away. (more…)
I’ve never really been into bow ties. Martin Shikuku totally ruined it for me when I was growing up. However, when it comes to fashion, I’m quite open to trying new things. I’m totally amped that these days women too can play around with bow ties. I’m a regular reader of the blog Mr. Talented because he always features cool new stuff. He has created bow ties out of 11 dice, with some pieces drawing inspiration from artists like Kanye West, Andre 3000 and Janelle Monae. See more pics after the break. (more…)
Ciara tweeted the above pic about a week ago with the caption “I love my new Chanel sandals!” I’m absolutely in love with them too! They look a bit difficult to walk in though. But who cares as long as they look divine! They feature a large Chanel engraved pearl. They are available for $450 plus depending on where you buy them. If I find a store in Nairobi that sells them I will forever be a loyal customer. More pics after the break. (more…)
I’ve always wondered how celebrities always seem to have a private jet at their disposal, even when they don’t seem to have the finances necessary to own one. Well, the mystery is solved people. It’s something called fractional ownership.
NetJets, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, offers fractional ownership and rental of private business jets. With fractional jets, customers (referred to as “owners”) buy a “share” of a plane, rather than an entire plane. The price is pro-rated from the market price of a full aircraft. Owners then have guaranteed access (50-400 hours annually or a certain number of days of the year, depending on share size) to that plane with as little as four hours’ notice. Fractional owners pay a monthly maintenance fee and an “occupied” hourly operating fee. Usually the latter is charged only when an owner or guest is on board, not when the plane is flying to a pick up point, or returning to base after completing a mission. (more…)
Beyonce’s Fall 2010 Dereon Clothing and Bedding Campaign is the ultimate embodiment of what it means to be Sasha Fierce. Beyonce looks fantastic! I admit when Dereon first came out, their style seemed ghetto which I wasn’t too happy about. But lately they seem to be stepping up their game. I blame all the bad choices on Mama Tina. Hopefully Beyonce will be infusing more of her style into the line. For those in Nairobi, you can get Dereon style from Collabor Intara. They are located in Jamia Mall, Ground Floor #55.

Louis Brown Suede w/Rhinestones Black Sneakers ($2,495)
I confess I am one of those girls who look at a man’s shoes before I notice anything else (Number 2 on the list is eyelashes sssshhhh). So far I haven’t really seen sneakers for men that really stand out. Usually I see Vans and Nikes…you know, the usual. Christian Louboutin is changing that. Now men will understand why we girls go crazy for red bottom shoes. They have a new Classique Sneaker collection from their Fall/Winter 2010 line. More pics and pricing after the break. (more…)
If you’re a man who likes to travel with nothing but the best, take a look at this Bottega Veneta Nero Soft Alligator Suitcase. This piece of luggage is a design classic, inspired by the idea that travel is pleasure. $53,500 worth of pleasure.
Crafted out of Alligator skin and finished with brass hardware, the bag is created to be durable and strong in the roughest of conditions. Marked by brass details and a lock-and-key buckle for added safety, the suitcase also includes an internal elastic pocket and a removable garment bag for further functionality. Designed to improve with age and withstand the rigors of travel, it’s not the kind of thing you check in on a commercial flight – unless of course you happen to own the airline.
I don’t know about you but Passion mag is really doing it for me these days. I usually pick it up for my monthly salon sessions. This is their 4th issue and I think they’re doing a great job.
Kenyan musician, Suzanna Owiyo, looks resplendent on the cover of the August 2010 Passion magazine. In an in-depth interview, she reveals why she will be voting YES for the proposed draft constitution. (more…)
I love my car. It takes me from point A to point B. It may give me trouble sometimes like refusing to start for no reason, deflated tyres at the most inopportune moments, etc. At times like that I may curse it like it was a red-headed step child or even give it a slight kick. However, I still love my car.
Now that I’ve professed my love for Matilda (yeah that’s what I call her), let me tell you what I would not do. I will not spend more than Ksh 300 to wash her (which I normally do at Nairobi West) let alone the $10,000 that Gurcharn Sahota of Elite Detailing charges for a one of a kind package for some of the world’s most expensive supercars. Sahota has a 4 step process to keep the interior and exterior of your car in pristine condition. (more…)
Hey everyone! I’m baaack!!! Was on vacation for a while and it seems so much has happened. I’ll start off with pics of Lebron James’ new crib. Figured I’d provide inspiration to make that money. Maybe one day I’ll be so blessed. My friend thinks it’s a bit much but if you have it… Lebron James who recently signed a 6-year, 110 million dollar deal with the Heat, is in the process of purchasing a $50 million dollar mansion in the Coral Gables section of Miami. The 8 bedroom/11 bathroom home was once owned by Heat coach Pat Riley. (more…)
I’m a nut for pretty phones. But there’s a limit to how much I’m willing to part with. The phone in the picture above is a creation of a company called Vertu. Vertu is a British-based manufacturer and retailer of luxury mobile phones. The company is an independently run, wholly-owned subsidiary of the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia. Their aim is to make us think of phones as…well, not just phones. Your phone should make a fashion statement. Something like your jewelry. Of course the cost is based on peronalization to your taste. This World Cup mania is getting out of control. A South African jewelry company, Shimansky, has created a life-size soccer ball made of 6,620 white diamonds and 2,640 black diamonds totaling 3,500 carats. The soccer ball took nearly three months to make and is estimated to hold a value of $2.59 million. The ball is set to make its world debut at the FIFA World Cup where it will be unveiled by jewelry designer Yair Shimansky. Mr. Shimansky is currently in talks with a European soccer club about selling the Shimansky World Cup ball to them as a 2010 commemorative display piece for their club. (more…)
Iman was honored with the Fashion Icon Award on Monday night by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This is an award given to “an individual whose signature style has had a profound influence on fashion.” Iman is almost 55 years old but could even pass for twenty something… I’m jealous
She was recently featured in a New York Times article which chronicles her journey from Nairobi, where she was attending university when she was discovered by photographer Peter Beard, to her current success as an entrepreneur, covering her three decades as a model revered by fashion designers and publications, as well as her marriage to David Bowie.
She tells the well-documented story of how she arrived in New York in 1975, the daughter of a Somalian diplomat. She spoke five languages but had never worn makeup or high heels. (more…)
For all you label whores (and I mean that in the nicest possible way), Versace has teamed up with Modelabs to bring you a luxury mobile phone – The Versace Unique. I’m totally in love with the purple version. I think it’s purrty Specs and more pics after the break. (more…)
Alek Wek makes an appearance in The Financial Times’ monthly luxury magazine, How To Spend It, wearing prints styled by Damian Foxe. Photographed by Andrew Yee, the Sudanese model makes a striking subject as she models looks from the likes of Stella McCartney, Lanvin and Etro. I wish Kenyan models would take a leaf out of her book. Don’t be afraid to do you! She makes me really proud to be African. More pics after the break. (more…)
Trina is on the cover of Kontrol Magazine’s Candy Issue looking really really good I must say. This is a real step up from her stripper days. The pics are taken by my fave photographer Derek Blanks. He has really aced this one. I love to see people making something of themselves even from the worst possible situations. Inside she talks about her upcoming reality show, her new cosmetics line, and what she does during her down time. Trina’s new album “Amazing” drops May 4th. See more pics of Trina from the shoot after the jump. (more…)
