So So Def rapper Da Brat recently revealed her feminine side in a ‘Summer Chic’ shoot for VIBE.com. The Chicago native, born Shawntae Harris, 37, maintains that despite her usual tomboy style, getting girlie is second nature to her. She could have fooled me! She actually looks every bit the lady in this shoot, until she opens her mouth:
What do you have to say about your new mixtape?
It’s DUMB STUPID CRAZY! It’s HOTTER THAN A MOTHER FUCKER! BRAT IS BACK!
Was it uncomfortable transitioning into a “sex symbol” or is this just another side of you that we never see?
I’m such a fucking lady. I loved to get glammed up. I love manis and pedis. I like to go to Vicky Secrets and La Perla because I like lace and bikinis. I’m such a P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thug) (more…)
Kelly Rowland, who is currently riding high on the charts with her single Motivation, covers the August/September issue of Vibe magazine topless! In the Annual Juice issue that hits news stands August 16th, Kelly chats it up about her success overseas, parting ways with Mathew Knowles and sex toy shopping with the girls. Here’s a few excerpts:
VIBE: The last album didn’t do well in the States. It did better overseas, particularly in Europe. Do you feel more appreciated in Europe?
Kelly Rowland: No, not really. People still compare me to B over there. I said in an interview recently, ‘You know, if you guys would be a little bit more intelligent and ask me about myself we’ll have a much better interview.’ You can’t want a story from me and keep asking me about the past.
When you walked away from that last meeting with Mathew, did you feel an “exhale” moment?
I did, but I also felt like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?!’ I stayed in the house for two days. I was sad. It was like a funeral. I had to deaden that situation in order to start fresh. That’s a very long time to have the same manager and the same label. (more…)
I miss the days when magazines had iconic people on their covers. Nowadays even groupies get on the covers. I mean, what has Amber Rose really done, apart from shagging Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa? It makes no sense at all. So the double covers for the next issue of Vibe magazine will be Rick Ross and Amber Rose. Check out the “quotes” from Amber:
AMBER ON LIFE POST-KANYE:
“What am I supposed to do? Crawl up in a corner and die ‘cause I’m not with Kanye anymore? Am I supposed to go back to the strip club and not take these opportunities that I have?”
AMBER OF HER RELATIONSHIP WITH REGGIE BUSH: (more…)
Vibe has decided to traumatize the world. WTH??? Who does that??? Why would you put a pic of a shirtless Rick Ross on the cover of anything??? Man boobs have not, are not and will never be sexy. I think I just threw up my breakfast… Thank goodness it will be a double cover so we still have someone else to ogle. In his x-rated cover story, The Breakfast Club’s host Angela Yee gets Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill and Pill to talk candidly and crassly about all things sex. Check out this excerpt:
YOU DON’T REALIZE how colossal Rick Ross is until he removes his white Tee. It’s startling. Six feet of portly tattooed excess, his drooping pecs flexing as he hulks through the Danish contemporary SoHo furniture store BoConcept. Rozay is shooting his first solo VIBE cover—the sexy issue, no less—and a memo from Captain Conspicuous reads that Ross is not the conventional poster child for the cause. (more…)
Teyana Taylor has a fabulous fashion sense, according to me. She’s not afraid to try new stuff. One could argue that she’s a fashion trendsetter. She recently unleashed her fierceness in a fashion spread for Vibe magazine. Rocking African, Lebanese and Indian-inspired prints while letting her FAB mane blow in the wind, she exuded pure sexiness. These outfits would be great for those ladies planning on looking awesome at the beach during the Easter holidays. I love love love the leso sleeveless jacket she’s wearing in the pic above. I need to look for a tailor who can pull it off because I’m not paying $595 for barely a quarter of a leso.
African-print sleeveless jacket, $595, L.A.M.B; animal-print one-piece swimsuit, $25, H&M; Hunan three-hoops earrings, $225, Masha; Vintage Kuchi Upper Arm Cuff, $35, Contemporary Kuchi Bell Anklets, $24, Tribal Belly Dance Fish Belt, $86, all Silk Road Tribal; “Watchout” shoe $110, Steve Madden. Check out the other looks from the shoot after the break. (more…)
I really don’t like 50 Cent. As a matter of fact, I unfollowed him on twitter when I realized he can be very ignorant. Regardless of how I feel about him, I can honestly say that I completely agree with him when it comes to face tatoos. They are never a good idea. Thankfully Kenyans are an educated lot and would not even think about pulling such a stunt…well, I hope (If you send in pics of a Kenyan with a face tatoo, I am willing to buy you lunch. It has to be a permanent tatoo for this offer to apply ).
Back to 50 Cent. He recently had the numerous tattoos on his body removed because he didn’t want them to interfere with him getting major movie roles. He is featured on the cover of the upcoming issue of Vibe magazine where he offers his views on face tatoos and thoughts on Drake not winning the Grammy for Best New Artist. You can also check out some pics of celebrities with face tatoos after the break. (more…)
I used to love Da Brat. She was such a positive female rapper…until she decided to act out by assaulting some waitress and got locked up for like 3 years. Her music was awesome though. Anyone remember her song :What Do You Like”? That used to be my jam!!! Well, Brat is out although she has to keep on an ankle monitor. She recently chatted it up with Vibe about prison life, the Nicki Minaj-Lil’ Kim beef, Mariah Carey’s pregnancy, losing her braids and more:
Brat, welcome back! JD was tweeting like crazy about your release. Can we expect to find you on Twitter anytime soon?
[Laughs Oh yeah I’m figuring out how to work all that Twitter stuff now. I haven’t been around a computer for a minute ’cause we don’t have computer access in state facilities. But JD just put me on to Global 14 and I’ve heard of Twitter and there’s a Facebook page with a perpetrator pretending to be me. But I don’t have a Facebook page yet! (more…)
I’m a huge Lance Gross fan so I love when he gives interviews that tell us a little more about Lance the man. He was recently voted Vibe Vixen’s #1 Finest Man Alive. Lance spoke to Vibe’s Starrene Rhett and discussed everything from what he looks for in a woman to what it was like being picked on in school. He also shares his feelings on his failed engagement to model turned actress Eva Marcille. The only part I don’t get is how you can be single but dating… I mean, if we’re dating, even though it may not be serious yet, I expect some kind of exclusivity. Or am I just too demanding?
How does it feel to be ranked as VIBE Vixen’s number one finest man alive?
It’s definitely an honor. It caught me by surprise. I didn’t even expect to make the list so I appreciate whoever voted or however you guys came up with it. I’m honored.
You said you’re surprised to make the list but ladies are in love with you. Whenever we tweet about you the timeline goes nuts, so aren’t you used to having been considered the hot guy throughout your life?
No. I was actually picked on as a kid. I guess in high school it started to change for me. I guess being picked on made a lasting impression on me so I never⎯whenever somebody calls me handsome or anything like that I never take it for granted. I appreciate it every time I hear it so it’s never something that gets old. (more…)
Happy New Year everyone!!! 2011 has started out beautifully for me and I hope the same can be said for you. I took an extended holiday so things have been really quiet on the blogging front. I thought we’d start the year off on a positive note with Keri Hilson. I say positive because to me, she embodies everything amazing about women. She’s graduated from being a behind-the-scenes song writer to an amazing performer. And she always seems to have fun while doing it all. She was on the cover of the December 2010 Vibe magazine and had a gorgeous spread which you can see after the break. In the interview, she said:
“There have been situations where the people you’re around have one vision for you, and it’s like trying on a jacket that doesn’t fit. Someone says, ‘Go out there in this jacket.’ And you’re like, ‘But… it doesn’t fit! Nor is it my style.’ And that’s hard, because these are people who are investing in you, spending their time and their money, but they have a different direction. But you want to—I mean you have to—please them. You have to try it, and hope you are able to turn it around before you’re known as something you aren’t.”
See pics from the shoot after the break. (more…)
I’ve always wondered why Brandy never seems to be in a long term relationship. Sure , she has been “spotted” with different guys but none of them has ever really lasted. Which is a shame coz she’s very talented and seems like a wonderful person. However, after reading her latest interview with Vibe, I think I may know her problem. Ladies, I know we are always told never to settle. However, having a long, impossible list of qualities you want in a mate is just ridiculous. No one is perfect. Chances are you’ll never find that one person with all the qualities in your list. My advice: if he makes you happy, doesn’t have a criminal record, has no baby mama drama, has a stable job, and has not racked up a boatload of debt, that’s a good starting point. You can always work around the rest

Usher is featured on the cover of the Oct/Nov 2010 issue of Vibe magazine with a Top Gun inspired photo. Despite all his shenanigans, this man still makes women go gaga. Usher spoke to reporter, Clover Hope, about his divorce, among other things:
On Raymond V Raymond being a career rebound
“I don’t think it was a rebound at all. Some people in my organization felt like it was a rebound, but for me it was business as usual. Were there hard times in the process? Absolutely. I think it was the first time that doubt was ever amongst the opinions. Like, Can he do it again? Is it possible that this can happen? When you have 15 years of a legacy built, it shouldn’t be questionable with one album.”
On how long he was thinking about divorcing Tameka (more…)
Remember Khia? She’s the lady who sang ‘My Neck, My Back’ what seems like a gazillion years ago. Talk about a one hit wonder. These days I only hear about her when she’s beefing with some random person in a non-intelligent rant which just seems like a jumble of words. This is the first time in a long time I have actually understood her and even agree with what she’s saying! She talked to Vibe.com and gave the ladies tips for the bedroom. (more…)
This is a sneak peek of Erykah Badu’s photo shoot from the June/July issue of Vibe magazine. I love me some Erykah! Her new album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) is out now. She recently gave an interview where she says that infidelity is not a deal breaker for her in relationships. I find that really brave. I am definitely not capable of such benevolence. But my question is, if that’s not a problem, why does she seem to have a hard time keeping a man? Men are such difficult creatures to understand…
Erykah On raising three kids as a single mother
No one chooses to raise children alone. When you’re in a relationship you want it to work. My parents did, I did. But we are not taught how to make it work. We don’t know how to perform in relationships. I did Math, Science, English but we weren’t taught about human interaction, about relations with the opposite sex.” (more…)
Nas gave an interview to JKennedy over at Vibe. You know I picked out the best parts just for you. For the full interview please click HERE.
You’ve had a longstanding relationship with Africa, as many chuckled at your afro-centric role in Belly, and you’ve even made light of your “Back-to-Africa” praise on “Black Girl Lost” from It Was Written. Do you feel like your audience rejects Africa?
Yeah, it’s multiple reasons for it. We’re in the greatest country ever, in America, so any country that’s foreign to us is gonna not seem homely, especially a place that’s been so fucked over by other governments. Especially a place that seems so poor. The family tree root has been cut here in America. So when you’re talking about going back, you’re talking about a place that people don’t know as their home, and Africans who don’t see us as their people. But we’re their long lost brothers and sisters. There could be so much truth told about that continent that would encourage young people. (more…)
