Actress Nia Long is the new face of Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds Lustre perfume – making her the first person to front the fragrance other than the classic Hollywood actress herself. Long, 43, announced her brand ambassador role on Instagram with the caption, “My beauty secret to make sure I always dazzle and shine on the red carpet @ElizabethTaylor White Diamonds Lustre #DiamondsInABottle #Spon.” The mother of two, famours for her TV roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Third Watch, said of the fragrance in a press release: “Elizabeth Taylor said White Diamonds was her ‘Diamonds In A Bottle,’ and that’s what Lustre really is to me – Lustre just adds that extra sparkle. I personally love the juicy pear and raspbetty notes in Lustre – it gives it a fresh, fruity feminine touch.”
I’m so excited for her! Check out a throwback ad for White Diamonds featuring Ms. Taylor after the break. (more…)
Kelly Rowland is one busy lady. The ex Destiny’s Child singer, who is working on her fifth studio album, has just been named as the Caress Fabulista for 2014! What I need to know is how she keeps her skin looking so smooth and glowing. The major Unilever brand will feature Kelly in their promotional efforts through this year. She’ll be sharing her favorite fashion trends and the latest news on their fine fragrance body washes on the Caress Facebook page.
Kelly recently took a break to chat with The Powder Room about her beauty routine, how she gets ready for a show – and what product is always in her purse.
How long does it take for you to get ready for a show?
It takes me about an hour to get ready. Maybe a little bit more if I’m trying to get focused and really hone in on the energy that I’m about to give out on stage and to the fans. The process is really easy. I actually do my own makeup.
What’s the one product you couldn’t go on stage without?
I just love a lipstick or gloss that’s not going to have my hair stick to it. That is very irritating. But I like to switch up my lip glosses every now and then, just to try a new color. I think your fans like to see you change up your look.
Hollywood It girl, Lupita Nyong’o is snagging magazine covers and fashion features all over the place! Glamour Magazine’s March 2014 issue will not be left behind and features Lupita in their Beauty editorial captioned “Superstar Beauty” with makeup ideas and inspirations gotten from Lupita’s beauty book. I love the bold use of colour. Dark skin doesn’t mean you can’t get adventurous with colour! This issue hits news stands February 11th. (more…)
Julia Roberts’ latest ad is so smooth, it’s been banned. U.K.’s Advertising Standards Agency has banned the above Lancome ad featuring the actress after complaints that it’s misleading. I’m kinda shocked because I thought everyone knew that all these beauty ads are photoshopped and airbrushed…
L’Oréal’s ad featuring Roberts, who is the face of Lancôme, promoted a foundation called Teint Miracle, which it claims creates a “natural light” that emanates from beautiful skin. It was shot by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino. Now seriously, is there anything in this world that can possibly make light emanate from the skin? Ads are there to sell us illusions of what we want, not miracles. You have to take them for what they are. I get that they are disappointed, but we all know that beauty firms sell us a bunch of hogwash. In life we’re sold alot of bullshit. You just have to be smart enough to separate the wheat from the chaff and take responsibility for your own decisions. Check out a side by side comparison of Roberts and the ad after the break. Ladies, please take a look at the picture of Ciara above. That is how NOT to wear a lace front wig. Let me start by explaining what inspired this post. Quite frankly I’m scared. Scared for my Kenyan sisters who are notorious for copying trends without researching the trend. I went to my hairdresser this past weekend. She had on what she thought was a lace front. It looked like 10 dead racoons piled on top of her head. This same atrocious looking lady, tried to convince me to get my hair done just like hers. In her defence, she’s really good at what she does. So I chose to assume that she was not responsible for the mess on her head. I politely declined her offer and insisted on sticking to my same old comfortable style, which looks amazing if I may say so myself.
As with most things, it’s better to start with definitions. Simply put, lace front wigs are full wigs with mesh lace attached in front and beyond the “hair line” of the wig, which is custom fitted, trimmed, and temporarily glued to ones skin around the hairline. You can’t see where the lace starts or ends. The mesh lace also provides for natural looking partings in the hair. The difference between a full lace wig and a lace front wig is that full lace wigs can be parted anywhere throughout the wig, while lace front wigs can only be parted in a limited portion of the front.
