Actress Nia Long is the new face of Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds Lustre perfume – making her the first person to front the fragrance other than the classic Hollywood actress herself. Long, 43, announced her brand ambassador role on Instagram with the caption, “My beauty secret to make sure I always dazzle and shine on the red carpet @ElizabethTaylor White Diamonds Lustre #DiamondsInABottle #Spon.” The mother of two, famours for her TV roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Third Watch, said of the fragrance in a press release: “Elizabeth Taylor said White Diamonds was her ‘Diamonds In A Bottle,’ and that’s what Lustre really is to me – Lustre just adds that extra sparkle. I personally love the juicy pear and raspbetty notes in Lustre – it gives it a fresh, fruity feminine touch.”
I’m so excited for her! Check out a throwback ad for White Diamonds featuring Ms. Taylor after the break. (more…)
Mrs. Carter is currently enjoying some well deserved fun in the sun with her husband and daughter after her whirlwind tour. She recently posted the above flick of Alexander Wang’s Parental Advisory Top. The $1,000 top was a signature piece in Wang’s Spring 2014 collection. Restaurant week has been a proven tradition amongst many major cities around the World including Cape Town, London, New York and Tokyo. 2014 will see Nairobi’s astounding restaurant scene added to this list. The innaugural Nairobi Restaurant Week will take place from the 30th of January (that’s tomorrow!) until the 6th of February 2014. A full 8 days for you to try as many restaurants as you can. All participating restaurant menus are priced at either Ksh 1250 or Ksh 1750 and include all taxes. Bookings are not compulsory. However, it is always a good idea to make a booking especially if you intend to have your meal at peak business hours.
You can browse through the different menus available from participating restaurants at Eat Out Kenya. From these menus, I’ve come up with my top 5 list that I just have to try. Automatically eliminated were those that did not have a dessert on the menu. Also taken into consideration is the number of options provided and value for money. And, because I am a full blooded Kenyan, there must be some sort of meat based entree. I also had to consider the reviews each restaurant has to whittle down the list to 5. There were so many great options. So my top 5 picks, and their menus for restaurant week are: (more…)
I’m really impressed with Alexandre Vauthier’s Haute Couture Spring 2014 collection. Braided leather added edge and texture to his body-hugging looks, while macramé tops and dresses — some were entirely knotted from hand-woven ropes — gave off an ethnic flair. Vauthier also experimented with sisal; the lightweight, malleable fabric helped him work undulating shapes on short ruffled dresses. More straightforward were looks done in a new Neoprenelike fabric made from waxed jersey. So light, it gave a stone-embroidered varsity jacket a shirtlike quality. Vauthier paired it with a white poplin shirtdress to great effect.
There’s alot of sex appeal, edginess and baring of skin. He even has some rather risqué see-through jumpsuits! I think he celebrates the female form so perfectly. And, it’s not hard to imagine yourself in his creations. Just inspires you to let your inner sexy diva out! So, I’ve compiled a few of my favourite looks from his collection. Enjoy! (more…)
Ooooh I love me some Trey! In the March 2012 issue of GQ, Trey has a 10 page feature dubbed ‘The Most Important Items In Your Wardrobe’, where he shows off the best sports jacket and blazer looks for the fellas. He rocks styles by J. Crew, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren Black Label, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Emporio Armani & Etro. According to GQ, if you are a guy and you don’t already own a well-fitted sports jacket, it should be the first thing on your list to add to your wardrobe.
While getting ready for his 2012 release of his album ‘Chapter V,’ Trey dished to GQ about possibly changing up his music style in the future by following in Marvin Gaye’s footsteps and making music that changes lives. He also dished on why he thinks Twitter and Facebook take away the mystery of an artist’s “persona”:
On Making Music Like Marvin Gaye — Love Songs to Changing Lives
I could make a hundred “Bottoms Up’s but they won’t change nobody’s life. Marvin Gaye sang love songs to a certain point, and then it was like, ‘F–k this; I’m not clean-cut no more. I’m putting this skully on, letting this beard grow out, and I’m doing whatever the f-ck I wanna do.
On if he’ll change up his style
I might. Give me a couple of years, though.
On Social Networking and whether it ruins the Mystery of Artists
What made Prince, Prince is, you didn’t know shit about him. As an artist, you need a persona, a mystique. When you step into Twitter, Facebook, all of that, you’re giving a piece of it away.
Check out some of Trey’s looks from the spread: (more…)
You can always count on Queen Bey to be on top of the latest fashion trends. I would never have dared to wear a body belt necklace but Bey showed us how to work it in her ‘Girls Who Run The World Video’ last year. She pulled it off so effortlessly that we are now seeing it on red carpets and runways. You can cop this body belt necklace clad with silver-tone galvanized brass plates for yourself at Giuseppe for just $995.
Angela Simmons was spotted at New York Fashion Week in Manhattan hitting up a few shows including BCBG MaxAzria. She wore a black knee-length dress that she paired with Giuseppe Zanotti leopard print pony wedges and a gold Giuseppe Zanotti body belt necklace. Serena Williams was also spotted wearing a black dress combination with the gold neckpiece last year while attending the 8th Annual Keep A Child Alive Ball.

Africans are doing big things around the globe! Zimbabwe-born British beauty, Nyasha Matonhodze, at only 16-years-old has been chosen as spokesmodel for Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter campaign. Following in the footsteps of Madonna and Scarlett Johansson, Matonhodze has been chosen to appear in the French fashion label’s autumn/winter 2011 campaign, shot by renowned fashion photographer, Steven Meisel.
“My eyes filled up with tears and I thought ‘Lord you are lucky!'” said Matonhodze of the moment she discovered she had been chosen to star as one of six up-and-coming models in Vuitton’s campaign, photographed in a vintage car at a disused Brooklyn aerodrome. “It didn’t actually hit me until I was sat in a Rolls Royce sitting eye-to-eye with Mr Meisel. He is a wonder to work with, he and Marc [Jacobs}made me feel beautiful”. (more…)
