I’ve been a huge fan of Estelle since she first hit the scene with “American Boy.” She’s starting of the year on a high note bringing sophistication to the cover of London’s Evening Standard. But things weren’t always so glamorous for the British singer. Inside, she talks what it was like growing up with six siblings and one parent and how she transformed from a “skinny, black girl in the ghetto” to the stunning black woman she is today.
After her first label dropped her in 2007, Estelle moved to New York City to try to breakthrough in America, and a chance run-in with Kanye West led to the production of her Grammy-winning single “American Boy.” Estelle is busy promoting her new project ‘All of Me’, and she shared her emotional connection to her newest single “Thank You,” written by Akon.
On how she met Kanye
“I’d been working with a producer in Los Angeles and it hadn’t been going well. So I flew to New York and listened to Kanye West’s ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing: The Official Mixtape’ in my hotel room. Then I went out for a walk and saw him in a fricking restaurant. I prayed to God for him to come out. And he did. We chatted. I said, ‘I love you. I also want to meet John Legend; I want to work with him.’ Kanye told me that John was inside, eating. (more…)
It’s that time again when Forbes releases their annual Cash Kings of Hip Hop list. For the third year in a row, Jay-Z tops the list with an estimated revenue of $37 million in the last year. Jay-Z who unveiled his long-awaited collaboration with Kanye West – Watch the Throne this week, continues to reap the benefits of a 10-year $150 million Live Nation deal, as well as stakes in the New Jersey Nets, the 40/40 Club chain, ad firm Translation and others. This year marked the first time he out-earned wife Beyonce since their marriage in 2008. In last year’s list, his earnings were estimated at $63 million.
Touring was one of the many revenue streams they looked at to come up with the Cash Kings list, which charts pretax earnings for all living artists whose work is primarily classified as hip-hop or rap. The estimates also include income from record sales, digital downloads, films, merchandise sales, endorsements, books and other ventures; management, agent and attorney fees are not deducted. Earnings were calculated for the period from May 2010 to May 2011 and based on data from Pollstar, Nielsen SoundScan, the RIAA and individual record labels, as well as interviews with numerous lawyers, media buyers, managers and many of the artists themselves.

I miss the days when magazines had iconic people on their covers. Nowadays even groupies get on the covers. I mean, what has Amber Rose really done, apart from shagging Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa? It makes no sense at all. So the double covers for the next issue of Vibe magazine will be Rick Ross and Amber Rose. Check out the “quotes” from Amber:
AMBER ON LIFE POST-KANYE:
“What am I supposed to do? Crawl up in a corner and die ‘cause I’m not with Kanye anymore? Am I supposed to go back to the strip club and not take these opportunities that I have?”

Just when I thought Kanye West was getting back to normal, he goes and pulls another crazy stunt. It seems the video for his song, Monster, will be different (for lack of a better word). Very different. Select scenes from his new music video ‘Monster’ hit the web yesterday. This video is very creepy. If his intention is to get the Illuminati rumours going again, I think he’s outdone himself.
In one scene, Kanye is shown lounging on a bed with a collection of dead bodies lying next to him. He clumsily makes out with one corpse like some kind of twisted, psychotic serial killer. The video also features rappers Jay Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross — who, in another macabre scene, smokes a cigar while sitting in a chair with dead bodies literally hanging around him.
Kanye’s exceptional CD, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is in stores now. It was actually awarded 5 mics by the Source magazine. What I’ve heard is also pretty good. However, I just can’t deal with this mess. Some may think it’s creativity, I just think it’s sick. See more stills after the break. (more…)
Kanye West covers the latest issue of I.D Magazine’s Back To The Future Issue. Inside, he shares his experience during his brief hiatus from “celebrity” and his friendship with Jay-z. In true Kanye fashion, he also shares with us the parameters he’s using to find the mother of his child:
On the qualities he looks for in a woman?
Integrity. I’m a hopeless romantic and I’m looking and trying to decide who the mother of my child will be. It’s not going to be based off a whim of being in love; she has to bring a certain level to the table. (more…)
Former US President, George Bush is out and about promoting his new book, Decision Points. In an interview with NBC which will be aired this coming Monday, Bush reveals his thoughts on Kanye West’s controversial comment. If you remember, back in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, there was a celebrity telethon. Kanye West went on national TV and said that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” This was in response to the slow pace of getting aid to the people of New Orleans. I was so shocked when he said that but I remember most people felt he was speaking truth. Well, George Bush sees it a little different:
“He called me a racist,” Bush tells Lauer. “And I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now. It’s one thing to say, ‘I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business.’ It’s another thing to say, ‘This man’s a racist.’ I resent it, it’s not true.” (more…)
I’ve never really been into bow ties. Martin Shikuku totally ruined it for me when I was growing up. However, when it comes to fashion, I’m quite open to trying new things. I’m totally amped that these days women too can play around with bow ties. I’m a regular reader of the blog Mr. Talented because he always features cool new stuff. He has created bow ties out of 11 dice, with some pieces drawing inspiration from artists like Kanye West, Andre 3000 and Janelle Monae. See more pics after the break. (more…)
